Explores the life of Nelson Mandela. He was born the son of a Thembu tribal chief in 1918 and grew up to be South Africa's strongest voice against the government's policy of racial segregation known as apartheid. After nearly three decades as a political prisoner, he was released, and in 1994 was elected the first democratically chosen President of South Africa, thus ending minority rule in Africa's last white-run country. Shows his struggles, his triumphs and the adversities which ultimately drove him to greatness as an African leader.
