Infernal v. Departed

The Infernal Affairs-series from Hong Kong, about a police officer who infiltrates the triads, were loved by audiences and critics for their original plot and no-nonsense storytelling. After "Infernal Affairs" came a prequel, "Infernal Affairs II", and a sequel, "Infernal Affairs III".

Martin Scorcese then remade the whole series as "The Departed", setting the story in Boston, starring Jack Nicholson and Leonardo di Caprio, and won an Oscar for Best Movie.
