Voddler and SMT implements Internet VoD service on STB

Voddler, Inc and Sandmartin International Holdings Limited (SMT) are initiating co-operation to integrate Voddler’s groundbreaking video on demand (VoD) service in the set-top box family of SMT.
Voddler Inc, developer of a global VoD software solution that will run over the open Internet, and SMT, one of the worlds most important manufacturers of set-top boxes and other electronic products, have entered a co-operation for mutual benefit. Under the agreement, the companies will integrate Voddler Inc's VoD product “Voddler” with a 3rd generation set-top box developed and manufactured by SMT. Frank Fischer, CTO of SMT, says: “We are proud to enter a global co-operation with Voddler to implement this revolutionary technology into our SDTV and HDTV products. With our Voddler-enabled products we will be able to provide today's most efficient VoD solution to our partners. We see this solution as a breakthrough, allowing operators to drastically reduce the cost of IP infrastructure.” After integration and testing are complete, both companies have agreed to jointly work towards establishing relationships with network operators to deploy the boxes with the Voddler service on a large scale, generating revenues from the VoD services offered. Since the solution is flexible and adaptable, network operators will easily be able to supplement their existing services with a compelling Internet VoD service, vastly increasing the amount of content available to their customers.
The product is the world's first VoD solution that is able to provide viewers with instant access to virtually unlimited content, while at the same time being cost efficient, scalable and not relying on expensive infrastructure like back-end servers. This is made possible by distributing content over the open Internet using mesh technology, where every viewer becomes a part of the Voddler network, sharing the workload of content storage.
