A gaming monitor is an essential part of any gamer’s overall setup. It’s a lot more than just a few pixels thrown onto a screen, the gaming monitor is your window to other worlds, different eras in time, football fields, and casinos. Your monitor is what will define your entire experience when it comes to gaming. Choosing a monitor is very important and as such, you need to make sure you’re picking the right one.
How Do You Pick a Monitor?
Realistically, when it comes to choosing a monitor, you’re spoilt for choice. There are a number of different models out there that you can choose from and each of them comes with its own pros and cons. One of the best things you can do when it comes to picking a monitor is to think about what your needs are.
PCs can now be used for a whole variety of different games as they can run the latest triple AAA titles that require a lot from the computer as well as more popular titles such as League of Legends and Dota 2 that are quite easy to run. This extends to other areas as well because, in Canada, online gambling is one of the leading industries throughout the whole country as an estimated 19.3 million people go on to online casinos in order to play the likes of blackjack, poker, and slots. It’s easy for these people to enjoy the best online gambling Canada has to offer because of the low requirements for the games. While the games on these sites are high quality, the image quality needed in order to appreciate them does not have to be huge or of the highest possible resolution. As such, if you are gaming in online casinos then a mid-range monitor would do.
On the other hand, if you enjoy gaming competitively and entering different online competitions for the likes of Fortnite, PUBG, or Call of Duty, you are going to need to give yourself an advantage by using a wide and high-quality monitor (you might even want to consider having more than one). As such, your needs have a big influence on your choice. Two of the highest quality monitors on the market are the Alienware 34 QD-OLED and the LG 27GN950-B, but which is better?
Alienware 34 QD-OLED
You’re not going to struggle to see any of the action on this 34-inch Alienware screen thanks to its massive size and a resolution of 3440 x 1440. If you game on titles that take pride in their design then this is a good option because the way that contrast and colors are shown on the display is near enough unmatched in the industry. Of course, it does come with a few negatives, one being that it’s not a great all-purpose panel, so you would predominantly have to use it for gaming. Not only that but there is no HDMI 2.1.
LG 27GN950-B
The LG is a bit smaller as it has a screen of 27-inches. The resolution rate on the LG is still impressive as it comes out at 3840 x 2160, alongside a refresh rate of 144Hz. Similar to Alienware, this screen is great for games with ambitious displays given the bright vivid colors that become clear when playing. There is also excellent response time with the monitor as well. One of the biggest negatives is that the sRGB mode is somewhat oversaturated.
Which Should You Choose?
When it comes to picking between the Alienware and LG monitors, they are both excellent and come with an equal number of pros and cons. You should be sure to consider both and think about the kinds of games you will play as this should assist with making your decision.
