When people talk about the  Internet of Things or IoT, there would be so much excitement and anticipation, especially because of the hype surrounding this new technology.

IoT which seems to have started as just a brilliant concept is now making an impact on people’s everyday lives. From, machine learning, AI, wearable technologies, intelligent cars, smart security systems, and advanced household appliances – everything is now regarded as a social and technological phenomenon that was once deemed impossible.

Yes, every single machine in the IoT has gone smart that it would not require any human intervention to manipulate or operate.

What Is The Internet Of Things (IoT) All About?

This is quite a jargon to your ear but IoT refers to the interconnection of devices to the internet which enables the seamless and quick transfer of data. Basically, the concept is that you can connect any device or machine unimaginable to the internet such as wearable devices, appliances, mobile phones, headphones, cars, and airplanes; to name a few.

Connecting these equipment or devices to the internet has provided a lot of industries and even governments an advantage. The concept of IoT is trending not just because it’s new but because it is the technology that drives today’s businesses and fuels the future.

In fact, there is a notably significant dependence on technology observed on humans. This makes IoT vital building blocks that will shape tomorrow’s society and businesses.

Emerging IoT Trends for 2022

Making a forecast on emerging IoT trends is guesswork because nothing is for certain. The Internet of Things, at is, is said to be the third wave of the internet revolution and many people are looking forward to what it has in store for 2022.

Smart Home Devices Will Go Mainstream

This is happening right now but smart home technologies for 2022 are designed to be more edgy and modern than previous years. It’s said to be life-changing because more are adopting the new technology rather than resisting it. You would be expecting more of robot vacuum cleaners, voice assistants, smart wearables, and smart kitchen appliances to be a part of 2022.

Security Will Be Edgier

IoT security is said to be more advanced in terms of providing extra and magnified layers of security to devices. There is now the increased use of secure protocols such as Wi-Fi 6 or WPA3 which are naturally encrypted. In addition, WPA3 also has “Protected Management Frames” which ensures accounts are protected from fraudulent or malicious activities.

IoT Devices Highlights Advanced Interconnectivity

IoT devices would now be able to freely communicate or interconnect with each other despite differences in internal specifications, operating systems, or service providers. The aim here is for all devices to enable MQTT, an IoT protocol so that all devices or machines are able to communicate with each other.

This is the vision of the Open Connectivity Foundation (OCF) in collaboration with major players like LG, Cisco, Samsung, Haier, Electrolux, and Qualcomm; among others. This leaves Google, Amazon, and Apple out of the picture at the moment. But, anything can happen in the future.

Blockchain-Based IoT Devices

Blockchain is bound to get more enormous by 2022. More IoT companies will be backed with blockchain technology from the authentication to processing of payments. IoT security will also get bigger in terms of anonymity which makes up the best version so far of the blockchain technology. Security is said to be the weakest link in the IoT which can be solved with its integration with the blockchain system.

Internet Of Things (IoT) Bound To Replace The World Wide Web Or Internet

This might be possible with today’s technology, anything can happen. In this world wherein IoT is fast growing in a parabolic speed, this might actually have the propensity to replace the Internet or Web. Evidently, there are now open-source operating systems like Raspbian and Fedora that use IoT and also the emergence of Google Cloud IoT and Amazon Web Services.

Connected Cars Will Gain Momentum

Connected vehicles are now moving into the mainstream. While still very new, connected cars are now able to provide top-of-the-line services in line with knowing weather conditions, travel forecasts, location, and traffic situations.

Interconnected cars or vehicles are able to provide future business solutions that cover employee productivity, insurance coverage, providing top-caliber user experiences, and optimized operations. It’s definitely getting bigger in 2022 as tech giants such as Google, Apple, and Microsoft will launch their interconnected car solutions.

IoT Will Be Adopted In Major Industries

As IoT is growing, many major industries such as transportation, health, security, inventory management, and asset management are set to adopt the technology. There seems to be a linear connection to data, things, and people, which is a huge consideration in adopting this new technology.

IoT technologies such as AI and automation will help in employee productivity, enhance health services, and even help with tightening security protocols such as identifying citizens.

Voice-Based Products And Services Will Grow Tremendously

Voice-based devices and services will be very popular in 2022 as it enhances productivity, security, accessibility, and efficiency for many households and businesses. This is also an advantage for many digital marketers or entrepreneurs who will have better options for interacting with different customers.

Voice search will also become multilingual to adapt to its users. Most people can speak at least two languages or are bilingual. English, Mandarin, and Spanish are said to be the most spoken languages globally. It was Google Assistant who first had the technology of having multilingual voice support. This may be a complex pursuit but is necessary to manage more user needs and concerns.

Machine Learning, Big Data, And AI Will Get Bigger And Better

Data will grow enormously every day which would need more IoT. There would be a need for more smart devices that can work with Big Data. Machine Learning and AI are set to be bigger as it can now quickly and intuitively process data in real-time without manual programming.

Introduction Of 5G

Have you ever used communication traversing at a speed of light-years? Well, this is bound to happen for 2020. Broadband connectivity and telecommunication which has a 4G LTE connection will be replaced by 5G connection or also known as mmWave which delivers a speed of up to 10 Gbps. This is expected to transform communications and businesses like never before.

Flying Cars Or Taxis

The future is definitely exciting with the emergence of flying cars or flying taxis. This is said to create a better and faster transportation route like no other. Volocopter, a German flying vehicle, was showcased recently at Stuttgart’s Mercedes Benz Museum which shows that the technology is real and available. Even though many people are skeptical about whether this pursuit is possible at all, change is definitely coming in addition to the self-driving cars that people are enjoying at present.

Technology is becoming trendier as the years pass by. People have seen the emergence of smart devices, smart cars, smart appliances, and smart wearables. So, what could be next? There is the possibility now of having smart cities. IoT inventions are bound to shake boundaries and widen horizons for many businesses infrastructures and homes. People might have seen it in the movies, but it’s bound to happen very soon.
