The market for such games at the moment is not so young and quite established. And if in the early years of the genre it was hard to judge which games can stay on top and which ones will fade into oblivion, now we can clearly see the market leaders and established mastodons of Battle Royal. And one of the games that appeared in the heyday of the genre and was able to only strengthen its position over time, was Fortnite.
What attracts players
There are countless eSports games that excite people all over the world. Vulkan Fortnite simply turned the industry upside down. It seemed that no one could overtake PUBG in its genre, but Fortnite showed that this was not the case. The realistic Battle Royal has been replaced by a cartoonish, vivid and dynamic game.
This style was accepted by millions of players around the world. Large-scale events and exclusive collaborations attracted an absolutely diverse audience to Fortnite.
According to the latest figures published by statista, more than 350,000,000 people around the world played Fortnite in 2020. In 2021, that number was just as high. So why does the “game for kids” continue to grow in popularity and capture more and more minds around the globe.
Cartoon battle of survival
Epic Games’ path to triumph was not a short one. The studio was founded by North Carolina developer Tim Sweeney in the early 1990s and at first, consisted of exactly one employee – its creator.
At the end of the decade, the company began selling licenses for the Unreal Engine (UE) game engine. It was this technology that provided Epic with prosperity for the next 20 years.
The company announced the release of Fortnite back in 2011. The studio wanted to create a project at the intersection of two popular genres:
- angular Minecraft universe;
- creepy horror shooter Left 4 Dead.
In 2012, Sweeney had an influential partner. The Chinese holding Tencent paid $330 million for a 40% share of the studio. And he did not lose.
Products of the American studio Epic Games less than a year and a half since the release of Fortnite gathered a fantastic audience of 200 million users and enriched the developer. Back in late May, analysts at SuperData estimated the total revenue of Epic Games from Fortnite at $1.2 billion, and by the end of the year the amount, according to Bloomberg, reached $2 billion.
Mechanics of battle royale are as simple as possible
The format that predetermined Fortnite’s success in esports betting Vulkan was called battle royale. It is a multiplayer game mode inspired by the novel of the same name by Koushun Takami. It is dedicated to survival alone or in teams.
In a confined space, several dozens of players find themselves. their main task is to survive at all costs by making tactical alliances and building other survival strategies. Epic could not pass over the product success, especially released on their engine.
